About Our School

The Arts and Technology Academy Public Charter School (ATA) is a Pre-K through 6th grade urban educational center that focuses on performing, visual, and media arts instruction, which is infused with an extraordinary use and application of modern technology. Charter schools are independently run, publicly financed, and non-selective of its students. ATA has an enrollment of approximately 615 students and heavily draws from Ward 7 of Washington, D.C.’s northeast section where we are located. For the 98 percent African American and 97 percent low-income student body, ATA has designed a program to meet the needs of these children and their parents’ dreams. By design, the school program reflects for students the strengths of their heritage and creates many ways for them to express themselves and to excel.

We are all very excited that ATA is going into its 10th year of operation in the fall of 2009, which is a significant milestone for a charter school to reach. We have continued to show great improvements over the years and we now out-perform all of the ten D.C. public charter schools in Ward 7 in either reading or math and are ranked #3 in math and #7 in reading in comparison to the other 31 elementary charter schools city-wide.

ATA is anchored with an extremely committed and motivated professional staff, Board of Trustees and parents, who reflect the vibrant culture of the School and one can tell that kids love coming to school to learn and their teachers love the great reward of working with them in the classrooms. All of us here at the Arts and Technology Academy work very hard to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our students and encourage them to be strong intellectuals with moral and environmentally conscious values. Art is at the heART of everything we do!
